Q Once I get to the airport in Tegucigalpa, what happens?
A There will be a Living Hope representative inside the airport waiting to receive you. Following that you will have opportunity to convert U.S. dollars to the Honduran currency of Lempiras. Then it’s off to Living Hope, only a half mile away. You will unpack and go through a brief orientation concerning your stay and your schedule.
Q Where do I stay when I am with Living Hope?
A You will be staying on site at our ministry center.
Q How much does it cost to stay at Living Hope?
A Once you are here the cost is $25 per day. This price includes lodging, 3 meals, travel to worksites, translators, one “play day” for each week here (site seeing with opportunity to purchase souvenirs - not included) and a parting banquet for teams. In addition there is a $35 departure tax at the airport per person that must be paid when leaving.
Q What are the options for length of stay?
A We are open to having you for any length of time. Generally people come for anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. We recommend that 10 days gives you a good picture of the work that the Lord is doing here in Honduras through Living Hope.
Q Do you have a youth/adult ratio?
A We ask that there be 1 adult per 5 students and with a mixed group of male and female students, male and female leaders are required.
Q What kind of work might I do?
A One of the unique opportunities that Living Hope offers is diversity of ministry. These ministries include: serving in public and private schools, children’s and youth programming, evangelism and encouragement in the homes of nationals, participation in home prayer meetings as well as worship, construction, clinics, food and clothing distribution. Whatever you do, we guarantee it will be relational.
Q How do you determine what my team will do?
A Three factors are involved in determining your ministry opportunities for your stay: 1) abilities/skills of team members – your abilities/skills are God given and we want to utilize them to the fullest during your stay. 2) Project expense money brought by the team – the $25 to stay does not cover materials needed for projects such as wood for houses, concrete, paint, medicines, food distribution, etc. 3) The existing needs here on the field – providing a great experience for your team includes being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the opportunities He provides for us to care for the physical, mental and spiritual needs of others during your stay.
Q Will our group work together or will we be split into smaller groups?
A We seek to accommodate the wishes of the team leader when it comes to splitting up the group into smaller work teams. Please be aware that there are a variety of things to accomplish, some requiring large numbers of people and others smaller amounts. If your group is large then it may be advantageous to divide at times in order for each member to experience the maximum amount of time spent serving rather than standing, waiting and watching. Other ministries will require every person that you have with you. When dividing into various responsibilities you will be under the direction and supervision of our experienced Living Hope team members.
Q Do you have any type of organized worship or devotions scheduled during the day?
A Monday through Saturday each morning we have time of sharing prayers of gratitude and petitioning God. It is only after a time of worship that we begin our work for the day. Every work day begins with God, whether a short-term team is here or not. It is the book of Acts lived out. In the evening is a time for your team to gather for worship and share what God has revealed to them that day.
Q Do you recommend any special immunizations prior to arrival at Living Hope?
A Individuals should be up to date on childhood immunizations. Also an up-to-date tetanus is recommended.
Q What paperwork is necessary for going to Living Hope?
A You will need a passport in order to enter the country. It would also be good to have documentation of your immunizations and a list of any medications you are currently taking. If you have allergies and/or are allergic to medications it would be good to notify your team leader.
